The 25th Year

Last week we officially closed the door on the last 3 years of our life in Loganville as we dug up the hydrangea & locked the door.

Now as full empty-nesters Audley & I are finally under one roof (he’s been living in an apartment for 2 years instead of driving 150 miles round trip everyday for work) living on the west-side of Atlanta. This was the 15th move we’ve made in our 25 years of marriage, which we also celebrated last week.

This move was probably the most difficult and for sure the most stressful in the fact he & I did 90% of it alone between Audley’s work schedule, wedding planning for our youngest daughter, lots of uncertainty and a of course this pandemic.

2020 has been an interesting year to say the least.

While 2020 has been memorable in its own way, the beauty and nuttiness of the last 25 years mixed with the excitement of the next 25, definitely overshadow any craziness that this one year has thrown our way.

Audley and I have four amazing kids, & now three sons-in-law (so much has happened in the last 10 years while writing this blog) who are contributing so many beautiful and positive things to this world of ours. Police officers, medical personnel, minister, exercise specialist, preschool teacher, Marines (we have 2 now!); we have much to be proud of when looking at our kids.

Having an empty nest at the quarter century milestone is a whole new world for Audley and me.

We have never been “just the two of us”. I became a full-time mom the day we said “I do”. Being parents together for the entirety of our marriage has been a large part of our identity.

Now, with Madeline saying her “I do” last month the full-time parenting chapter of our story has closed! Now we get to write the next chapter as we discover new adventures together. I have no clue as to what the next 25+ years will look like for Audley and I, but can guarantee it will be filled with love, growth, discovery, new adventures and as always God-centered.

So cheers to the next 25 years and whatever adventures come our way!

There is Love

“Well a man shall leave his mother and a woman leave her home
They shall travel on to where the two shall be as one

As it was in the beginning is now and til the end
Woman draws her life from man and gives it back again
And there is Love
There is Love”

Just like that.

Nervous-Bride | Oh-Fiddle-Dee-Dee

We experienced a lot of her nerves in the days ahead, but she was surprisingly calm the day of.

It was a lovely day filled with beautiful moments, joyous celebrations with those we hold dear to our hearts, sentimental memories, and happy tears.

Something old; a hat pin tucked into the brides bouquet that belonged to MacKenzie’s great-great-great Grandmother!

We truly love Michael, cherish his adoration for MacKenzie, and look forward to including him in our crazy little family.

She’s Getting Married

One of the first pictures I ever posted on my blog of MacKenzie Grace was this sweet picture of her on a mission trip in Jamaica.

I’ve always been so proud of her love of God and her passion for christian living.  As all of our children have grown up Audley and I have prayed so many prayers that we raise our children in a way pleasing to God.  We have not been perfect parents, but we have tried to be what God expects.  As we have prayed over our children, we started from birth praying that when the time came, God would send the perfect person to accompany our kids through their adult years.  I was specific in my prayers that God send them someone who could compliment their personalities, love them unconditionally through all the good and bad this world has to offer, someone that they could mutually submit to and respect, and above all someone that would help them get to Heaven.

Well, MacKenzie’s getting married!

Up in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina, her boyfriend, Michael, popped the question this past weekend.

And just like that my sweet little girl is going to be a Mrs.

Not only is she going to become a Mrs., she is going to be a minister’s wife!

I think God answered our prayer.

They are giddy with excitement and so in love.

And I can’t wait to see how God uses them in their future together!

The date is set for June 3, 2017, so be prepared to see a lot more posts as the day arrives!

Wedding Cakes & Wedding Bells

Sometimes things just don’t go as planned.

Looks can be deceiving....

Looks can be deceiving….

Over the weekend my daughter and I travelled to Montgomery, Alabama where MacKenzie was to be the maid-of-honor in the wedding of one other closest friends & I was to do the wedding cake.  With my four tiers of wedding cake baked and prepped for travel Mackenzie and I set off for a five-hour trip that took nearly ten hours to make due to a serious traffic accident!

Loaded and ready for travel. Yes, this is going to be a wedding cake!

Ever made buttercream icing in a hotel room? Me either, but I love the kitchen at Montgomery's Homewood Suites as it made a great place to do last minute prep!

The bride had a great vision for her cake, but since she couldn’t arrange everything she wanted on her end, I altered the original vision and gave her a wedding cake that seemed to make her quite happy on her special day.

Iced coffee to fight the heat and I'm ready to work!

This cake was a little different for me to decorate (not in a bad way) as it was a combination of elements; fondant, buttercream and fresh flowers and greenery.  It made quite a lovely combination without a doubt.

When it came time to assemble it all, is when it became a real challenge as the wedding was held in an old cotton warehouse (The Eclectic Warehouse in Eclectic, Alabama).

The temperature inside was 91 degrees which did not work well for buttercream icing and the table was a wee bit bowed in the center which made my precisely leveled cake look a little off!

It's MELTING!!

It’s MELTING!!

But finally with a little help from trays of ice and a large fan, I was able to finish the cake.

At last ready for viewing….

The icing was still a little droopy, but there is only so much you can do when it is over 90 degrees… and my cake isn’t leaning, the table was bowed!

I thought the combination of elements was really pretty.

The bride seemed genuinely happy which was of course my only goal.

The wedding was sweet.

And it’ll be a long, long, long time before I use buttercream icing for an outdoor wedding when it is over 90 degrees!
